Printed Label

Woven label or Printed label ?

There are multiple options available when it comes to branding of your garment. One such option is labels which carry your brand name. Often labels also carry size information (lets say M, L, XL or 28, 30, 32) to inform the both the seller and buyer of the garment dimension. Sometimes we also have wash instructions or care instructions as some might call on the label which informs buyer of how to take care of their garment (like at what temperature it needs to be washed how it needs to be tried and how it has to be ironed, this comes in the form of both symbols and text) .

For the above mentioned purposes we can have two type of labels woven labels and printed labels. Woven labels are the name suggest are weaved often using polyester thread. Printed labels are printed with ink on the top of satin/taffeta or cotton tape material. Which label you opt for is mostly a matter of choice but sometimes you can decide based on the your pricing, target segment and type of cloth.

Mostly light material like intimate wear (like vests, nighty) opt for printed labels as it is very light and has smooth edges. For garments like shirts, trousers denims, kurta and kurti are mostly using woven labels.

Woven labels also give more premium look than their printed counterpart. Woven labels are more expensive when compared to printed labels.

Washing is also a consideration when choosing which labels you want to choose. Woven labels usually don’t wear and tear with regular or industrial wash however printed labels tend to wear out with time. If they do not wear out then their ink will most probably fade our in a maximum of 50 washes.

Above details are true mostly for garments where you want to use only one labels. There are many garments where you will be using more than one labels and multiple combination of labels for garment branding purpose. This is a subject of another blog post 🙂 .

Hope this helps you in deciding whether you will want a printed label or woven label.
